Burn the Quran This Saturday September 11?

Pastor Terry Jones of Gainesville, Florida, in spite of world wide condemnation, is planning to burn 100's of the Islamic holy books this Saturday, September 11, 2010 in commemoration of the terrorist attack.

Christianity is one of the strangest religions. It is based on love not hate, yet we hate evil. It encompasses all of time and more. The plans for Christianity were drawn up in God's mind even before the world was made according to the Bible.

My Kingdom is not of this world or else my servants would fight, said Jesus. People through history have tried to make Christianity militant, as the Crusades of the middle ages. But these campaigns have passed away, though some remnants remain. The early Christians never burned the image of Caesar in effigy. They just witnessed love and died bravely.

Christianity is a spiritual kingdom. I believe there are battles going on in the spirit world between angels and demons. A number of times Jesus engaged in this battle when He cast demons out of people. He often fought with the devil, and ultimately triumphed over satan at the cross. As Christians we are engaged in this spiritual civil war.

I believe we have permission to defend life, limb, and family, but military service is a government operation which means it is a conscientious decision. WE are not called to take up arms for the government, but I believe we can do so at times conscientiously.

Even though it is hard to do, perhaps one of the best things we can do in a Christian spirit to defeat terrorists is to apply christian love to Muslim people. For example, there are at present 1,000s of people in Pakistan who are homeless because of the terrible floods. WE can pray for them, and send relief in the name of Christ. Christian love applied defeats evil better than guns and book burnings. Its hard to do. In fact, it is not of this world. And that in a nutshell is Christianity.

This is the embodiment of Jesus who as love Himself came into an evil world, and did not succumb to evil but overcame evil with good. He is our example, and as followers we are called to do the same, albeit not without His help and His leading. As Jesus depended on God the Father, we followers depend on God the Son.

Hmm..The world is against what Pastor Jones is doing..And it's not unconstitutional to do..(burning a book)
    Hmm..

    World opinion..hmm..

Jesus is coming back to save those who belong to Him and...Israel..against her enemies..Islam..Hmmm..

Jesus is the same yesterday ..today..and tomorrow..Jesus said before Abraham..I Am..Hmm..

The koran is against the US Constitution..very contrarily written..Hmm
What ever shall we do with this fine piece of literature that instructs it's followers to dominate and annihilate those who don't bow their knee to their god ? Hmm..

People never consider that love, though apparently peaceful, is the most violent forms of attack known. Love can conquer hate, whereas hate just subdues, dominates, yet hate still remains. Love changes people. Hate intensifies hate. I believe most of the battle is done in the spiritual world between angels and demons, and our part on earth is mostly a witness. I also believe that people on earth are either led by demons or angels. Our part in this galactic battle is rather small, but important.

Richard, I agree. We should not lower ourselves to that level. I don't think that doing what they do is the answer. I support our troops, and I pray for our enemies to be saved. There are alot of converts to Jesus happening in Muslim countries. And it's because of what you said, christians are there helping them, and doing missionary work, spreading the Gospel. Blessings and thanks for posting this.

Thanks Richard for this post.

I agree.

What bothers me more is how some use God's Word to justify force and hate.

All of which you said..I whole heartily agree with.

William Wilberforce comes right to mind.

But....Do we know the motives of Pastor Jones heart ? Do we honestly know his intentions or what has motivated this event ? You have insinuated that this is being done in hate. Hate for who ? Where is the evidence that this man Pastor Jones is acting in hate towards a person ? Are you God and can see his heart ? I do know and see that the world has condemned this man. But has God also ?

Entertain for just one tiny moment that perhaps God Himself is behind this event..not just allowing it..but purposing it Himself and inspiring Pastor Jones to follow through with this act.

I am not proposing that Pastor Jones is acting on his own reckless accord or fulfilling that which God has purposed for him to do. For I do not know this man's heart. I do know that I wouldn't hesitate lighting a match to that pile of inspired hatred against mankind.

This is what I recognize Richard. Burning those satanically inspired books lines up perfectly..yes perfectly with the Word of the Lord God.

Will there be an outpouring of repercussions ? ABSOLUTELY ! Evil will most definitely retaliate when anything of satan is destroyed..if that be evil words.. evil instructions..an idol. Oh yes..the enemy is riling up the world over this and ..evil is pizzed off over destroying a satanic idol.
But what of God's move on this event ? What will He bring about of this ? That..I'm on the edge of my seat to witness. There will be bloodshed..that..I'm almost sure of. If it isn't this..the enemy will conjure up any other stupid excuse to murder people. That is satans propose to his own wicked self. The Lord has written that His Word has a price to it. That through the ages has proved to be true.

I will not bow down to world opinion. I will not give into the fear of man.

But less God speaks to my heart regarding this.. I say

    Burn it.
Hi Richard & Will!

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I agree with Will and even Jesus displayed righteous indignation with the moneychangers at the temple. The Quaran is a book contradictory to God and all that He stands for, they make no bones about wanting to kill Christian and Jews, and have openly declared us their enemies. On the other hand, I'm concerned about the repercussions for our troops, as Alan has a son in Afghanistan and there are thousands of our troops in other parts of the world who may suffer as a result of this act. Jesus said we are to love and pray for our enemies, that's a really tough call in these circumstances, however I will do my best to obey.
You're right Will, we don't know the heart of this Pastor, nor do we know what God has called someone to, we can only pray for His perfect will in this situation.
God bless you both!

Your approval is NOT needed. The ONLY approval I need is that of God. You are arrogant, and not of God.

I have nothing else to say to you. You are not granted access to me.

Please do not address me in the future.

What I have to say is this.

When Jesus was physically with His apostles they would not dare fight or feel the need to scuffle. But when they were away from Jesus, then arguments broke out. I just wish Jesus was here physically, and not just Spiritually. Then He would settle all our questions. In fact, we probably would not have many questions.

People who acted out like Judas when expensive ointment was applied to Jesus head were calmed down with a Word from Him. There were no arguments and no fights when He was around. The presence of the Prince of Peace seemed to keep everyone calm and rational.

Today we are witnesses of His Spirit. Christianity is not a violent religion. God has called us to peace. Jesus gave us His peace so lets rest and take comfort in that. The Spirit of Christianity is not our spirit but a connection to the Spirit of the Divine. Its a Spirit that shows uncompromising love to all even in the face of hate and lies.

It is walking lock step with the Prince of Peace. In this relatonship we always rise above self and ego. It is indeed transcendent and plays out in personal experience witnessed to the world around us. How could anything like this be of this world? We are fortunate to be a part of this.

Richard,

Christianity, being comprised of humans, has a contingent of war mongers that are attracted to Christianity in the way that the Jews were attracted to Jesus.

Then and now, and always, there is and will be a desire to be led out of situations of our own making. The Jews wanted Him to be the Messiah and save them from persecution. Some now want Him to be the symbol and head of an army to destroy "the competition" some of whom do want to destroy us and some who do not.

"In this relationship we always rise above self and ego." That is absolutely true, and possibly one of the most difficult things we are called to do as Christians. It is where we stumble most times. As I said elsewhere the Bible can be used to justify most things. I, as a growing Christian, seek not justification, but fulfillment of His promise in me.

"Be perfect as your Father is perfect" .... won't ever happen, but the daily ongoing effort is the thing.

In the book of Acts Ch 19..Evil books were burned. That action was done in the flesh..not through a supernatural event.

What or who is a muslim ? This might help -

Islam is a monotheistic religion originating with the teachings of Muhammad, a 7th-century Arab religious and political figure. The word Islam means "submission", or the total surrender of oneself to God (Arabic: الله, Allāh). An adherent of Islam is known as a Muslim, meaning "one who submits (to God)". There are between 1 billion to 1.8 billion Muslims on the basis of self-identification, making Islam the second-largest religion in the world, after Christianity.

Muslims believe that God revealed the Qur'an to Muhammad, God's final prophet, and regard the Qur'an and the Sunnah (words and deeds of Muhammad) as the fundamental sources of Islam.[4] They do not regard Muhammad as the founder of a new religion, but as the restorer of the original monotheistic faith of Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other prophets. Islamic tradition holds that Judaism and Christianity distorted the messages of these prophets over time either in interpretation, in text, or both.

Islam includes many religious practices. Adherents are generally required to observe the Five Pillars of Islam(1*), which are five duties that unite Muslims into a community. In addition to the Five Pillars, Islamic law (sharia) has developed a tradition of rulings that touch on virtually all aspects of life and society. This tradition encompasses everything from practical matters like dietary laws and banking to warfare.

Islam is the religion, muslim are who practice the religion.

Will, the books you mentioned were burned by those who owned them and used them prior to becoming believers. There is no scriptural precedent for anyone burning the koran, and doing so or approving of anyone doing so isn't being a light. The Word is our guide for how to live-not our emotions.
